Enriching and Revitalising Ways to Experience the Great Barrier Reef

News

Encounters with the reef have evolved over the years to become more personalised and intimate. Here is just a few different ways to experience one of the Natural Wonders of the World

Enriching and Revitalising Ways to Experience the Great Barrier Reef

So you thought you knew about every reef experience and every location on the Great Barrier Reef, that perhaps the reef couldn’t come up with any new encounters, well, we are here to give you pause. If small, organic, boutique are words that you associate with your expectation of visiting one of the Worlds natural wonders, then read on, because we may have found some experiences just for you……..

Frankland Islands Reef Cruises

The Great Barrier Reef’s Frankland Islands are a pristine archipelago located 10km offshore, about 45km south-east of Cairns. The group consists of five continental islands, Normanby, High, Russell, Round and Mabel, and are a part of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. All the islands are uninhabited and surrounded by healthy fringing reefs, full of hard and soft corals, giant clams, schools of fish, turtles, octopus and more. Your journey begins with a trip South of Cairns past cane-fields and the very unique Pyramid. You end up alongside the Mulgrave River, and after cruising down the river, a short hop across the Coral Sea, sees you at the Frankland Islands group. The day is yours. Putting on a mask and snorkel and enjoying the stunning water are a must. Exploring the islands, relaxing on the beach, maybe trying one of the myriad of optional activities available, it is totally up to you. Lunch is included as is Morning and Afternoon Tea. The reason we love this tour is because you are the only people at the Frankland Islands. They are pristine, the environment is pristine…..just dont tell too many people about it. We kinda like it the way it is.

Aqua Quest - Port Douglas

Making the right decision on what reef operator to choose can be a little bit daunting when you consider the number of options out of Port Douglas, but then we found this one. Aqua Quest first hit the water two years ago making it one of the newest boats operating out of this part of the world. With a capacity of 120, but taking just 80 people, the small numbers appealed straight away, when compared with some of the bigger boats. You head out to what will be two locations that you will visit on the Outer Reef. The quality of the reef, the abundance of marine life will leave you constantly looking around to what will be the next thing to appear. If you are a diver, you will love this trip. If you want to try SCUBA for the first time, you will love this trip and if you just want to snorkel and see what you can find from the surface of the water, then you will also love this trip. What makes this day on the reef so good is the quality of the Aqua Quest crew. The care factor in making sure everyone is having a great day is apparent and combine it with the food you will be served, the briefings and insights you will get about the reef locations you travel to, a trip with Aqua Quest is really one of the great day tours to the reef. This trip got the big ticks from us because of the numbers on board, the age of the vessel, the quality of the reef locations and the friendliness of the crew. You will have a terrific day out with Aqua Quest.

Heli Tours North Queensland

Imagine this. A deserted sand cay, surrounded by turquoise water, that special someone alongside you and just your own private helicopter and pilot. If this is smoking your tyres, then you need to have a look at this experience. Heli Tours North Queensland have an Ultimate Sand Cay Experience. They will pick you up from your accommodation in Cairns, the Northern Beaches or Port Douglas and fly you out over the Great Barrier Reef. If marvelling at this incredible natural spectacle is not enough, that looming white sandy beach that is coming into view is going to be yours for the next few hours. You land and as if by magic, your pilot pulls out of the helicopter, beach chairs, an umbrella, a picnic hamper while you put on a mask and snorkel and go and enjoy your encounter with the reef. You come back in and your pilot turns from skilled aviator into a wine serving waiter (they go all right those pilots at Heli Tours North Queensland) as you kick back and enjoy the warming rays of the sun and just wonder how long this has been going on for .
