Family Fun in Port Douglas

News

Port Douglas is a fantastic destination for the whole family. Here are our top picks for kid-friendly fun in Port.

Four Miles of fun

Port Douglas is home to Four Mile Beach, a long, flat picturesque stretch of sand that seems to go forever. Perfect for bike riding and sand castle making, you’ll find plenty to do here to keep the little ones occupied. Four Mile is lifeguard patrolled and has a seasonal stinger net, so can be swum in year-round.

Stay in family-friendly accommodation

One thing’s for sure, there’s no shortage of places to stay in Port. Almost all have pools, so if you don’t fancy a dip in the ocean you can still cool off. Holiday apartments are a great option if you’re travelling with kids and will get you more bang for your buck. We’ve found some fantastic deals for you here, all walking distance to town and the beach.

Get wild with wildlife

With the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest on Port Douglas’ doorstep, you’ll have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of North Queensland’s wildlife. Spot Nemo on a snorkelling trip out to the Reef, feed kangaroos at the Wildlife Habitat or say hi to a croc at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures.

Connect with nature

Just 20 minutes north of Port Douglas is Mossman Gorge, the gateway to the Daintree Rainforest and home to a beautiful freshwater swimming hole. Take in the beauty of the pristine rainforest, cool streams, towering mountains and the dramatic Gorge on a self-guided walk around the area.

Stroll the markets

Held every Sunday in Rex Smeal Park, the Port Douglas markets are an iconic experience. Dozens of stalls set up every week catering to locals and visitors, selling fresh produce, wooden toys, handmade clothing and crafts, and everything in between. Keep yourselves and the kiddies entertained at the playground, where the food trucks set up.
